My work manifests in two categories: the premeditated and the spontaneous. Premeditated works center around the critique of gender binaries, as seen in my painting, sculptural, and performative works. My paintings feature everyday household objects that possess the aura of binary-assumption, transforming their surrounding environments into either male or female-occupied spaces. Oftentimes fleshy figures are rendered utilizing these objects as a catalyst for their involvement in the environments around them. The forms’ engagement with gendered objects creates a meeting point between traditional, binary modes of gender privilege and assumption with the liberal fluidity of genderless-ness. The genderless figures invite androgyny and gender fluidity into their surrounding environments while simultaneously acknowledging how certain objects invite sexism and privilege. This meeting point aims to diminish binary modes of thinking through satirical critiques of male, heteronormative privilege.

My drawings and poetry are created intuitively. Both are produced through my engaging in a meditative state and allowing the words, forms, and shapes to flow through me. As a result, my focus remains on the tactile feedback from the pen, charcoal, or graphite that acts as a meeting point between my consciousness and the other-worldly messages, symbols, or markings that come through. I place my trust in my creative, or meditative process and scarcely revisit these works to apply touch-ups or editing; The preparation requires me to exit my conscious mind as an intentional, conceptual artist and invites me to transcribe rather than create. Recording these messages merges contemporary and ancient modes of spiritual meditation with contemporary art-making, effectively breaking down the need for a conscious artistic creator.
